Azilal rugs are traditionally handwoven by Berber women in the region of Azilal in the Atlas mountains of Morocco. Their beautiful colors vary from neutral to bright shades and the design characteristics range from a free style expressive pattern to geometric shapes. Every Azilal rug has its own personality and expresses the weavers aspirations in life – each rug has its own story to tell. Knotted by hand, usually by a woman – they can take up to a year to complete. The intuition, experience and fantasy of the woman weaving and knotting the rug permeate her work. The pattern and symbolism in the rug is the voice and expression of the weaver – and usually tells a rich story of her life and what is happening to her during that time. Made from 100% pure sheeps wool.
These unique pieces of modern art can fit wonderfully in any modernist decor, on the floor or even hanging on a wall.
