Styling your home for the Seasons...
Moroccan use of colour.
In Moroccan design colour is meaningful. Every colour choice is purposeful and conscious, nothing an accident. These rugs are more than decor but affirmations of strength, protection, wisdom, eternity and peace. Moroccan design is trustworthy, free and timeless. As we come out of the solstice, the longest night and the shortest day of the year which brings a chill in the air and the sign from the universe to slow down. Its is a powerful time of year when seasons change, energies peak, and we become open to a new vibe and feel. We love to embrace this time of year and use it as an opportunity to fill our homes with the colourful textures of vintage Moroccan rugs and intricate Moroccan home wares. Filling our walls and rooms with meaning, comfort and history.
Slowing down.
In the more challenging times the solstice offers an opportunity to lean in to a slower pace. Not dissimilar to the isolating Berber culture the cooler months bring a pull to reflect, retreat and hold space with ourselves. We must try to listen to these instincts even though our busy schedules try to distract us. The stories told by the Berber weavers have been quietly passed down throughout the generations and a now still so relevant. Their stories of focusing on what is important is translated through their designs and repetitive patterns reiterating their message through repeating symbols. The meaning behind these patterns are the magic that makes our house a home. During this time you might feel a pull to remain and just be. You are not alone. Taking the time to reflect on yourself, your home and the things you surround yourself with can be renewing and restorative. Berber rugs carry their weaver’s desire to protect the human spirit from negative energy and shield the human body from the elements. We love welcoming this protective vibe into our homes.
Spring Transformation.
As Spring makes its way in we see this as an opportunity to embrace fresh and vibrant new colours into or living areas. Washed cactus silk cushions, pastel vintage leathers and bringing in pops of colour with our Berber baskets, Spring is the time to let the fresh in. Globally we get pretty excited about the spring equinox bringing us out of winter and officially starting the season. We love to reflect this in our homes.
Three ways to prepare for a fresh spring start:
- Review your existing colour palettes in your home, assess your core colours and what you might be able to keep out for the new season approaching. Pack away textures and colours you prefer to display during the cooler months. Bring in fresher colours, pastels or brights- such a lovely way to welcome in spring.
- Embrace lighter textures- think washed silks, sabre, cottons. Natural fibres that are soft and welcoming. Recently added to our online store are Miss April Natural Turkish Pom Pom Bath Towels. They are a beautiful spring addition to your bathroom, ensuite and pool areas.
- Try something new- we are all so accustomed to using a neutral palette in our homes Spring is a great time to incorporate something a bit brighter or more daring. We are crushing on Zaina, a vintage Boujaad rug featuring pretty feminine warm pink, red and orange hues. As pretty as she may be do not underestimate her, this rug will add strength and a uniqueness to any room. You can add further personality and interest with ease by echoing the softer pink tones with our collection of cactus silk cushions to add to sofas and seating areas.
